The Foundation Skills Class
Click here to find out about us.
At Takapuna Primary School we want to help every child succeed in their early years of schooling. To this end we have introduced a 'Foundation Skills' programme in our new entrant classroom (room nine). Our 'Foundation Skills' classroom looks a little different from a traditional new entrant classroom.
Every day students participate in a wide range of important movement activities. These movement activities can improve the way the brain functions to help prepare a child for learning success.
We also take time, in the 'Foundation Skills' classroom, to develop auditory and visual processing and memory. The ability to remember what we see, hear and do are learned skills.
The 'Foundation Skills' programme offered in room nine is based on the theory from the 'Get Ready for School' DVD. This DVD has been made as a resource for parents and educators to help explain the 'Foundation Skills' that underpin all formal learning.
